@Mr Anderson, I still have my 3570k lol. Well it's in my old comp but I want to make this rig to where it will be a while before upgrading again plus I need it for gaming. I want to be able to multiclient my pc games and use android emulators, which use a lot of RAM and because I know that's what build I want. Work and play. Even though a lot of people use water cooling, I still don't. I'm just not comfortable with using them. So I also need a really good case that has massive airflow with prebuilt fans in them. Yes, I can be lazy.

  • Mr Anderson

    13 dager siden

@Allyson Chen The 11th gen reviews are bad, with the exception of i5-11600k, which is surprisingly punching well above its weight. Maybe go for that with a mid-tier z590 board(since i5 is not really a mini-sun in the system needing top tier VRM, heatsinks and what not) and you can save chunks of $ for the GPU. Also, since you mentioned work, maybe just go AMD.

@Mr Anderson I couldn't agree more. Doesn't matter if you are an AMD or Intel fan, competition is what we need. It will keep prices down if there is enough silicon to go around that is lol

Again it boils down to PPR. Price, performance and reliability, pick two. I've been retailing or supporting PC's since the early 486 DX days. Having sold thousands of CPU's over the years I have only found one DOA Intel CPU. Back in the "gold rush" days of PC's in the mid to late 90's, the out of the box failure rates on AMD Athlons were about 10%. You could abuse a Pentium. I have seen sans heatsink Intel chips turn color from cold silver to cobalt blue from heat and then melt into the ZIF. Put the cooked Intel CPU on a new MotherShip and it would still POST. Power up an Athlon without cooling for just a couple seconds and you have a Kaput chip. AMD's are generally cheaper than Intel for comparable performance but ultimately are not as reliable, from my experience. The adage, you get what you pay for holds true. Great uses for dead AMD's and Cyrix MediaGX's was techno chess boards.

More realistic benchmarks would be nice. I know of no one that games with nothing running in the background. This makes people think there is no point in getting a cpu with more than 6 cores. Benchmarks should include multi monitor step ups and see how a cpu handles running a game and streaming a hd 60fps video from youtube or twitch on a second screen.

longtime PC builder since the 1990s here. To me I think the bottom line is that nearly everything and anything you can buy these days, CPU/motherboards, etc... I tell people.. "It's all good". A lot of modern comparisons these days feels like such "inside baseball" minutiae. Even as a long-time 25+ year PC builder my eyes glaze over when I hear modern day comparisons between components. It's not like the days of comparing a Cyrix 586 chip vs an Intel Pentium or a 3DFX Voodoo1 vs a Rendition card when there were actual differences between the user experiences of each and every one of these components. Games barely ran well on most PCs back in the 1990s so you basically needed "The Best" out there to run anything half decent. There were only the 1 or 2 "good components" that you needed to know about for each category, and everything else was crap. Nowadays, I have 5+ year old un-upgraded PCs that still run everything well. I feel PC hardware is to the point where you could randomly throw a dart now onto a virtual dartboard of components to pick your parts and with few exceptions, you'd still build yourself a fine PC for 99% of tasks. Everything is good, cheap, and reliable these days which has made PCs very simple and easy to build imho. The "inside baseball" comparison of CPUs and Graphics Cards these days feels so irrelevant and far-removed from the user experience that I'm surprised so much analysis still exists on the matter.

I would like for u to do more testing of both chips set using Linux operating systems and streaming. I am using manjaro, and tried the update with NVIDIA drivers, however the update broke manjaro due to my 14 year old laptop using 32 bit drivers running on a 64 bit operating system. I will be looking to update to a desktop or even build one. My budget is under $500, so even a old optiplex, or hp elite that will have the ablility to play and stream. Thx guy, you doing a great job.

Easy, you get the highest performance for the lowest price at the time. I prefer intel

I’d love to hear some more thoughts on content creation. I’m getting ready to do a build centered around gaming AND content creation, I’ve noticed a lot of the AMD mobos seem to be limited in terms of peripherals, and I’m leaning towards intel right now solely because I can get a mobo with a 20gig per second usb c port for moving large video files as well as the fact I can liquid cool and clock high for cooling during long renders and stuff. Any input here?

And yet again not even close to mentioning that new gen games are most likely going to favor AMD. Both PS5 and Xbox series X went completely AMD and no one seems to want to point that out
