Never. This is the new norm.
Do you guys think its worth to wait 2 more years for GPU? I have time

Sooo... What you are saying is that 2nd hand gpu market will boom at the end of the crypto mining boom
The one time my parents let me build a pc

Why did the cpu prices go up to I don't see why but I did hear about a silicone internal computer chip the isn't in production for the past year
time to get ebay, Amazon, and all secondary markets shut down so it kills the platform for scalpers to make money..and make a country wide listing every box store has access to. making you only able to buy 5 cards a year at local stores.
shouldn't mining be illegal?
I bought a 3070 for gaming and then I kind of stopped playing cause all games boring so now I’m mining eth with my card and making like 4,5USD per day.
Was production really lower? I've heard they actually produced much more than other generations, but with the many people stuck at home, people are buying PC's again in record never before seen amounts. 2.6 million people bought their very first steam game in 2020.
I actually know some people who work for school districts tech side, and they mentioned that they have been on back order for a few months now because they’ve been using the extra finance from COVID relief to buy whole new computers, and we are talking about 70-100 entirely new computer rigs per site, meaning a huge demand for all the components to help staff and students be able to connect better technologically. I’ve got an entire rig upgraded, except I didn’t expect to be left stranded on the gpu. I’ve been hoping and praying for a gtx 1660 super, but I get the feeling it’s not gonna happen for a long time... not without paying out four to six times it’s standard price, anyway.
okay can we just get the 40 series and then i can buy a 30 series thanks
what are people mining for? why are they buying things people are struggling for and really want just to mine like, bitcoin or whatever? im so confused about what mining is and why it requires such intense power. the cost of these people's machines in comparison to the money they make doesn't justify to me. edit: if ASICs start getting produced more, then will people buy those and sell their 30 series and stuff?
Guys, hang in there. Etherium is going Proof of Stake this summer which should lower crypto miner demands. Edit: In fact, there is a lot of demand from crypto users to go proof of stake vs. proof of work due to much lower fees. Proof of stake makes mining less profitable while simultaneously increasing the value of the crypto.
They always skyrocket in the future, they will never go down.
This is the new normal. Now the manufacturers see what we're willing to pay for GPUs, the prices are not gonna go back down. Get used to it...
in real life my gtx1660super is much better than yours imaginary rtx3090
What do you think? Will gpu prices get back to normal by January 2022?
Swiss Francs are backed entirely by gold and it is one of the most stable currencies in the world. A Swiss bank account is a good place to store money to weather inflation. But you need $250,000 to even open an account I believe.
Got a full costum loop Ek dual 420mm 40mm rad Ek Rgb waterblocks pump x99 i7 6850k 1tb ssd 1080ti be quiet 650w gold modular 32gigs 3000mhz corsair ram for... 1‘000.. now im like fuck cant even get s bette card then 1080ti for 1k... fuck that..
This is literally painful to watch. It pisses me off that I can't just buy one of these cards. Literally, my gpu, a 1060 6gb. Is dying. I blue screen frequently, and it's a yikes. But y'know, I can't buy fucking anything. Uncool. Even when I go to estimated drops, amd.com, bestbuy, whatever. I never score anything because the websites are so glitchy and shit.

I want to build my own pc and I looked up some gpu’s...... a gtx 1660 super, the rx 580 and the rtx 2060 super are all the same price
In case people don’t realize why the crypto craze is so nutty, it’s because people are treating it like a stock. Crypto is an untraceable and non taxable method of paying for things on the internet, and people mining are the ones running the security to keep transactions secure. It’s value is raising not only because people want to use it to pay for things, but because more and more people are investing in it with hopes it will rise like a stock and they can cash out. So miners aren’t the only part of the craze, investors are creating a huge part of the incentive to mine and they aren’t even involved in the GPU debacle. With Robinhood and Coin Base allowing people to invest in a fraction of the cost of a whole etherium or bit coin it is drastically inflating the value as well. It sucks
77k right now
There's no gold or silver behind most fiat money in the world. I'm know I'm not the only that knows this...
I can’t build me a computer because of this.
Everyone needs to refuse to pay these extreme prices.

Btw I bought the 1060 for 160$
I bought my parts for around a grand back in September. And I was talking to my brother he was going to build his own. But the parts was too damn expensive and he just bought a prebuilt pc
I got my PC built in February 2020. I did kind of anticipate the pandemic might get serious and it might affect the prices for months... but right now it seems I got my machine cheaper a year ago than it would be now... no regrets!
It's still "Nissan" no matter where you are. "Nee-san". Short for "Nippon Sangyo". Nissin is a Japanese noodle company.
It is not pronounced "Porsch", it is pronounced "Porsche". There is a "e" at the end, don't skip it when pronouncing it.
Also, 4k monitors are now cheap, but they need a good GPU.

I REALLY hope that this crypto-mining boom won't get *so* outrageous that crypto-miners start commissioning the construction of 100-story *skyscrapers* that are totally dedicated to crypto-mining! At that point, I'd say that anyone who's in the market for a gaming PC would have to take out a 30-year mortgage just to pay for the *GRAPHICS CARD!* That's because the graphics card *alone* would be just as major of an investment as a house! I'm talking GPU prices ranging from about $100,000 up to $1 *million!* Also, just imagine how much electricity each of these crypto-mining skyscrapers would require; and also imagine how much heat each of these things would generate! A single crypto-mining skyscraper (which, at 100 stories tall, would be 1,000 feet tall) in Chicago would probably cause a 10-mile-radius area surrounding it to remain in the low 100's degrees F. *In the dead of winter,* mind you! With a frigid *Siberian* air mass in place! Just imagine how hot that 10-mile area around that crypto-mining skyscraper would be in the middle of Summer! By the way, you know how the Texas Power Grid and the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) had to do rolling blackouts a few times last winter because of the two-week-long cold wave? Well now, imagine being faced with rolling blackouts *every single day, all year round* just because a few crypto-miners just "had" to erect their crypto-mining skyscrapers! Yes, these things would suck up so much electricity that they'd cause the power grids that they are part of to have to impose nonstop rolling blackouts! Really, the ONLY practical way to keep these crypto-mining behemoths empowered is for each of them to have its very own nuclear fusion reactor (at the very LEAST) for power generation! Grid power could never *possibly* be enough for these! They would *have* to generate all of the power they consume!
Arby 1611
Dag siden
@Jeff Zebert Imagine if miners really do start trying to use radioactive power. That could cause a pollution problem.
Jeff Zebert
Dag siden
@Arby 1611 I would hope so! Even *one* of those crypto-mining skyscrapers would do a number on whatever power grid is unlucky enough to have to provide power to it! Indeed, I believe that if the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) were obliged to support one of these GPU mining towers, then it would see its total power demand spike even *HIGHER* than it did during that 2-week Arctic blast this past winter! And, during that Arctic blast, the SPP had to go into EEA3 (Energy Emergency Alert 3)! During an EEA3, a power grid must ask all of the power companies within it to institute rolling blackouts. Thus, even a *SINGLE* crypto-mining skyscraper would cause the SPP to go into *PERMANENT* EEA3 so that it would have to institute rolling blackouts *ALL THE TIME!* Let's see now... a typical 100-story crypto-mining skyscraper would have 90 of its floors dedicated to GPU mining racks, while the other 10 floors would be mechanical floors (which are floors that contain utility services for the building such as the HVAC system, water pumps, and power generators). Also, I believe that the ground footprint of each of these monstrosities would be about as wide as one of those crypto-mining warehouses in China. So... take the power requirements of one of those Chinese GPU mining warehouses and multiply them by 90! And that's *not* even accounting for the power requirements of other things in the skyscraper such as lighting, elevators, the actual central computer that is running the crypto-mining application, and the devices in the aforementioned mechanical rooms! Really, the only way for these skyscrapers to be practical is if each one of them had its very own power station -- at the very least in terms of technological level: a hydrogen fusion reactor. The best place to put this fusion reactor is in the building's basement. This begs the question: "Why not start with a warehouse and just stack more floors on top of that warehouse as you go?" Here's the answer: the warehouse is not built to support even *one* floor on top of it.

PC's that cannot accept anything but Digital Downloads/Streaming games are total wastes of money, and a non-option for people that own & purchase physical copies of games. Therefore NZXT is a total no-go at this time, unless you're the type that only buys digital downloads... and is too lazy/dumb to build a system yourself.

Had to buy a damn prebuilt 3080 and 10900k just to get the upgrade I waited many years for. I got a 980ti in 2018 because of the shortage then, I got a 1080ti in 2020 because the 2xxx series wasn't a good enough value and then 3xxx series I was ready for the 3080 and nope... since switching to gaming PC's in 2010 this is the 1st prebuilt I bought. Yeah yeah we're all sad about our gaming PC builds, but I feel like the real takeaway from this video is: kill cryptocurrency, kill it with fire and leave no trace of its existence.
can anyone tell me an exact month that things will normalize?
Go prebuilt. I saw a deal at Office Depot. 3700x with RX 550 GPU. $599. That's the mains of it but all built, including accessories. No monitor. 😲 Same if you build it. $800. The tech world is gonna change like the cars did. Say goodbye, to the days of working under the hood. Apple set the example for how to sell locked computers, with non changeable parts. 5-8 years, we won't get access to the motherboard. Mark my tears.😥 Not only is it not coming back, it's going to take education and training just like cats used to be easy and now it's not.
Hmmm, I have a nice GTX780 iChiLL sat in a box and a couple of Strix R9 280's in mint; but nothing to put them in. I understand why nobody would need my spare 1Gb HD7770 either if you are over 1080p. Guess they will gather dust until landfill.
I agree though, with your last comment there. I don’t really understand how cryptocurrency can ever hope to succeed long-term because it’s digital, nothing is backing it. Now, I’d understand if we somehow found a way to exist in a fully digital world.. like if we had integrated our consciousness into machines... or maybe, in a slightly less drastic and world altering situation where all or almost all of our world/economy/work/art/media/etc existed in an online world or virtual reality. In other words, I don’t see how cryptocurrency ever has any security to it, unless it’s value somehow directly related to us as humans. Gold benefits us squishy humans in many different ways. So does food. And iron. And steel. And silver. And certain crystals and precious stones. But 1s and 0s we can technically live without. We’ve done it for a long long time.

Fiat money is not backed either.
when it crashes crypto miners are going to want to get rid of all their graphics cards
jay you sound exactly like a secret miner..
Well, you may want to send out the right message here: a mining rig built from a gaming PC is nowhere near able to make 200-300 bucks a month, in terms of mining. There is no way to get such numbers out, if you consider the cost of electricity and the rate at which a hash can be calculated. The time when a single guy could have a mining rig in the basement are long gone, thanks to people building mining farms in big industrial buildings. These days if you are lucky, you can get maybe a couple of starbucks cups a month... If you can make 20-50 bucks a month you are lucky.
Miner here, slight correction on ASICs and why GPUs are profitable again. ASICs were massive for BTC because BTC's algo was just SHA-256, meaning you could essentially stick a bunch of SHA-256 chips on a single board while other algos like ETHash or an even better example XRandom are specifically designed to be most efficiently run on GPU/CPU (depending on the algo). This is done in a bid to avoid having the network overtaken by expensive ASIC units and centralized which creates a whole host of issues. There were ASICs for ETHash and many of them still outperform GPUs but the cost is no where near worth it compared to just running GPUs. ASIC resilience has been a growing trend in mining as of recent however with ETHash moving to proof of stake (not being mined on hardware) you're likely going to see a lot of used GPUs hit the market unless something like RVN takes off, don't forget to make sure you're getting the cards from a good seller though as some people really run these things hard and hot and the fan on your used card might be well worn already.
Ok Boomer

I just got an Aorus 3080 from a Micro Center. I called the day I left(Tuesday) and the woman said they got a truck that day but there were no graphics cards in it. So that was encouraging. I had just bought a car last week so I decided, what the hell, road trip! Plus, Wednesday was my only day off so that's the only day I could go because they don't get trucks on Sunday, my only other day off. The one I went to was just east of Cleveland. I drove about 120 miles that evening. I got there Tuesday/Wed at midnight. I was the first one there. I set up my sleeping bag and pillow. 30 minutes later another guy showed up, visibly disappointed at my presence. He set up his chair next to me and we bullshitted for awhile. Around 2AM another guy showed up and we just chilled. It was a perfect night to do this because it was around 61 degrees at that time. I can't imagine how people did this when it was snowing/freezing outside. Around 9AM, there were about 30 people behind me in line. When the doors opened there were 60 people behind me. They led us to a special area where a line formed, snaking around the outer aisles of the store. At that time, we still didn't know if they were going to get a truck that day. At 11AM someone pulled out a cart with merchandise out of the back and started stocking it. That's when we knew they got a truck. Now all we had to do was wait to see if there were any cards on it. Three carts later they wheeled out the GPUs, but we weren't allowed to approach it. They stocked up the locked shelves and then put the price stickers on and then they allowed me to come up to the glass with an employee escort, me being the first in line. The truck only had two 3080's, two 3090's, six 3070's ,and two 3060's. So 12 of us got cards and the rest of the crowd got nothing. Some Micro Centers have crazier crowds than others. I think the one in Cincinnati is way worse. I got lucky. Purely a Hail Mary shot in the dark impulse decision to go down there that day and I claimed victory. It was either the AORUS or the Zotac and I chose the more expensive one. If you go to a Micro Center, do your homework. Ask the employees when they get their trucks. Ask if the trucks had any cards that day. If they didn't, chances are the cards are on the next truck. Get there early that night/morning. If I had known what I know now, I would have gotten there a couple hours before, like at 10pm. I was way tired driving back home, but it was totally worth it. I don't have to deal with bots or discord rumors or anything like that anymore. It's such a relief for only a little bit of discomfort/lack of sleep. The amount of enjoyment I'm going to get out of this card when I finish my build way outpaces any effort I put into getting the card even if I paid a good markup. I paid 1100. More than I wanted to spend? Yes. I didn't know how much it was going to be until they led me to the shelves. I'm also going to be buying the warranty when I get paid again. You know what is also great? I don't have to spend any more time watching these youtube vids about where you can/can't get a card. All that is behind me now and it feels awesome.
I think the real question everyone needs to ask themselves is "What do I need my computer to do?" and build around that. Going from a 2080 to a 3080 is an upgrade, but you can only have so many frames in League.

3 dager siden
I got a 1080ti, but not everyone plays league only. Im playing warzone on 2k but cant get 144fps. When i lower the resolution scaling or the graphics the gpu usage goes down too and i get the same frames with 1080p low or 2k high settings.144 fps is impossible for me to get. So yeah people like me need those
I am starting this comment at 53 sec. into your video. I do not think my view will change but I will finish the video and hear your view. The prices will not drop due to miners and scalpers. They may even be the same folks. However, you can not blame the high prices on the C19. It is somewhat of a jump in things yes due to work and school at home which differ from using a chrome book, laptop or a home computer. For example when I worked for Dell Computers a long time ago. To work from home you had to use their laptop. I do not see that effecting prices that much. It is mining which the more people doing it the less the miners make. Scalpers have jacked up the prices and now the factories are doing the same.. When the stimulus money runs out sales will drop and retail prices will raise to the sell level of the economy.
Because the loser scalpers need to get real jobs lol
All this is right, but you will be pissed off because I can't recommend to build a PC when intel is comming with a new CPU this year with DDR5, AMD will probably let die AM4 to build something new, also GPU prices are just a scam and you will pay prices for a product that doesn't worth that price, so keep your things, don't buy nothing, unless you have so much money that you really don't care, and if you don't have a GPU NVIDIA has a gaming service trough the internet, so you can play everything on ultra on a potato (FREE OR 10$/m); So no excuse, you really don't need new hardware.
